Chained in Backrooms Walkthrough
Clear every major Chapter 1 zone with callouts for co-op timing, Pull saves, and boss rooms.
This full walkthrough covers the main Chapter 1 mission chain in Chained in Backrooms. Zone names follow common HUD and creator video labels; exact order can shift slightly after patches—cross-check Updates if a room was renamed. Bring a party that already skimmed Getting Started and Chain Mechanics.
How to use this guide mid-run
Assign one player to read the next heading aloud. Pause at each objective banner. If the chain keeps yanking people off edges, shorten your formation and re-read Pull timing before retrying. Creature-heavy rooms pair with Survive Creatures. After Chapter 1 complete, continue with Chapter 2.
Escape the Maze
Your first banner usually reads Escape the Maze. Treat it as a coordination warm-up, not a race. Keep the chain centered in corridors so the rear player is never stretched around a corner the front cannot see. Call left/right turns early. If lighting buzzes or something stalks the halls, freeze as a group—solo peeking often strands the tether. Interact with marked exits using E. Completing this zone typically helps unlock early badges such as You joined the backrooms.
The Obby / Complete the Obby
Standard Roblox parkour with a cruel twist: everyone shares rope length. Jump only when the previous jumper has landed and the chain slack returns. If someone misses, wait for a Pull instead of leapfrogging into a double wipe. Sprint (Shift) sparingly; sprinting while a teammate is mid-air is the fastest way to pad the floor.
Red Light Green Light
When the caller or game voice signals stop, everyone stops—including camera fidgeting if the detection is strict in your build. One late mover can fail the squad. Pre-agree that the front player watches the light while the middle player watches the chain for accidental drift. Crouch (C) only if the room design allows hiding without counting as movement.
Tower Obby
Vertical chained parkour. Put your strongest jumper second-from-front so they can set pace without yanking the rear off ladders. Call “climbing” before each segment. If someone falls a long way, use Pull to recover bodies instead of everyone diving after them. Patience clears Tower Obby faster than hero jumps.
Arcade
Find the arcade machine, then beat its mini-game. Only one player should claim the interact prompt while others hold position so the chain does not drag the player off the cabinet. Communicate score or pattern callouts if the mini-game is memory based. After the win, regroup before leaving the room so stragglers are not stuck on the tether mid-transition.
Glass Bridge / Bridge
Glass or fragile panels punish greed. Send one scout with everyone else holding slack near the start. If a panel breaks, do not pile onto the same square—Pull the fallen player if the game allows recovery. Never push teammates “for content” unless the whole party opted into chaos mode; pushes here cause full wipes. See Controls if Pull feels unresponsive on your device.
Boss Fight
Early boss pressure teaches positioning. Spread just enough to avoid splash, but stay inside rope length. Focus the same target; call hit windows. If a creature grabs or knocks one player, Pull and reposition rather than scattering into dead ends. Keep heal/tool slots (1–3) ready if your run has temporary items.
The Train
Timing rooms: move as a block when cars or platforms align. Missing a jump usually means waiting for the next cycle together—do not have half the chain on the train and half on the platform. Assign a countdown (“three, two, one, jump”).
Rocks & Flowers
Traversal plus environmental reading. Watch for safe colored paths, pressure plates, or interactable flora. If the room mixes platforming with item carries, put the carrier in the middle of the chain so drops are easier to recover.
Boss Battle
Harder than the first boss. Refresh stamina, remind the party of Pull binds, and clear adds before greedy finishing blows if the fight spawns extras. Stay vocal—silent parties eat enrage timers.
Simon Says–style segments
Stand on the color or perform the action only when the prompt includes the Simon Says condition. Fake-outs are common. One designated listener repeats the instruction in chat. Wrong colors often punish the whole tether, so hesitation is better than a wrong sprint.
Going Home / Destiny / Piano (Chapter 1 finale stretch)
Late Chapter 1 layers story rooms: Going Home, Destiny votes or path choices, and a Piano interaction near the end. Follow on-screen prompts; let one musician interact while others guard spacing. When the Chapter 1 complete banner appears and Chapter 2 initiates, take a break, then open the Chapter 2 guide for research facility, lava, levers, and the green good ending.
Badge notes while walking through
- Tragectory Welcomers — welcome / join style badge.
- You joined the backrooms — enter the journey / level for the first time.
- Landspace’s Dust (Level 2) — enter Level 2 for the first time (often tied to later progression).
Exact badge triggers can vary; treat them as progress spices, not gatekeepers.
Wipe recovery loop
- Name the failed zone in chat.
- Fix one cause only (timing, Pull, or greed).
- Re-enter with the same caller.
- If physics feel wrong, re-read Chain Mechanics.
- Check Codes and Updates only between sessions—not mid-bridge.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
How many zones are in Chapter 1?
Expect roughly 10–11 named mission zones from Escape the Maze through the Going Home / Destiny / Piano finale stretch, depending on how the HUD groups segments.
What is the hardest early room for most parties?
Tower Obby and Glass Bridge cause the most wipes because chain tension amplifies one mistimed jump into a full fall.
Can we skip zones?
No—progress is mission-based. Clear the active objective before the next banner unlocks.
When does Chapter 2 start?
After the Chapter 1 complete message, the game initiates Chapter 2. Use the dedicated Chapter 2 guide for puzzles and endings.
Should we watch a video while playing?
Yes—one muted reference video plus a live caller works well. This page’s youtubeId embeds a full clear you can pause between zones.
Do badges block the walkthrough?
No. Badges like Tragectory Welcomers or Landspace's Dust track milestones; you can finish rooms without hunting every badge on the first clear.
